Guardians ranked among MLB's top farm systems, per MLB.com

Guardians ranked among MLB's top farm systems, per originally appeared on The Sporting News The Cleveland Guardians are spectating from the outside of the AL Wild Card as the MLB season comes down to its final two months of the regular season. Although the team has found some momentum, having an 8-3 record in August, the Guardians are still one game behind the New York Yankees for the last AL Wild Card spot. With franchise players like Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan leading the way for the Guardians in 2025, there's a lot of potential in Cleveland's future. With releasing its midseason rankings for MLB farm systems, Cleveland came in at No. 5. The Guardians are well-known for developing pitchers through their farm system. Players like former Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber, as well as current pitchers in their rotation, such as Gavin Williams, Logan Allen, and Tanner Bibee, are all players that the team drafted and developed into successful pitchers in the league. However, things look a little bit different this season. The Guardians' top prospects are filled with positional players. Cleveland has five Top 100 prospects that are poised to emerge as potential stars in the big leagues: second baseman Travis Bazzana (No.15), outfielder Chase DeLauter (No. 56), shortstop Angel Genao (No. 57), and first baseman/outfielder C.J. Kayfus (No. 59). Each offers major upside for the organization's future. C.J. Kayfus has already shown how impactful these young, up-and-coming players can be in the league after making his MLB debut on Aug. 2. In 10 appearances this month, the 23-year-old has a .258 batting average, .303 on-base percentage, .452 slugging percentage, and a .755 OPS while hitting one home run and five RBI. As time goes on, expect each of these developing stars to find a spot on this Guardians roster. Whether it's this season or in the future.

Cleveland's Jose Ramirez beats Marlins by setting a franchise record

Cleveland's Jose Ramirez beats Marlins by setting a franchise record originally appeared on The Sporting News As if winning the game wasn't enough, Jose Ramirez had to set a franchise record while leading the Guardians past the Miami Marlins, 4-3, on Tuesday night at Progressive Field. Ramirez hit two solo shots vs. Miami, making him the new franchise leader in multi-home run games with 27 over his 13 years in Cleveland, per the team. That surpassed the previous record of 26, held by Albert Belle and Jim Thome, according to Sarah Langs. And Ramirez did it in spectacular fashion—by hitting a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning that proved to be the winning run. He also drilled a double to finish the night with his sixth three-hit effort this season. It also marked his second multi-home run game of the year, following his 3-homer performance against the Angels on April 4. Ramirez signed with Cleveland as an amateur free agent and made his debut for the club in 2013. Since then, he's made seven All-Star appearances, led the Guardians to a World Series appearance and won the Silver Slugger Award five times. He's batting .280/.353/.506 with 280 home runs over his 13 years in the league. The Guardians (62-56) secured a crucial victory on Tuesday, as they continue to fight for a playoff spot down the stretch. Cleveland increased its postseason chances to 29.7% with the win—according to FanGraphs—nearly three percentage points higher than its odds entering the game (26.9%). After a slow start to the season, the Guardians have won 22 of their last 30 games but entered the day 1.0 game out of the last AL Wild Card spot. However, the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers have faltered as of late, seeing their 15.5-game lead on July 8 drop to 6.5 entering today. With the playoffs fewer than two months away, Cleveland will need its star to lead them back to October. If tonight was any indication, Ramirez will be up for the challenge—maybe setting a few more franchise records along the way.

Yankees To Trade for Jose Ramirez? Top Reporter Makes Huge Deadline Prediction

Could the New York Yankees make a blockbuster trade for one of the most underrated players in MLB, Jose Ramirez? A top team insider thinks so. 'Outbid by the Mets for Suarez, a desperate Cashman swallows hard and sends a big package, including Spencer Jones, to get a difference-maker at third base in Ramirez, the Guardians' perennial All-Star,' SNY MLB insider Jon Harper wrote in a predictions piece today. Related: Jose Ramirez stats (2025): .295 AVG, .363 OBP, .506 SLG, .869 OBP, 18 HR, 50 RBI, 54 R 'As beloved as Ramirez is in Cleveland, he turns 33 in September, with three more years on his contract. And with the Guardians going nowhere this season, they may see this as a chance to reload,' he added. 'Depending on how highly they regard Jones, the Yankees' power-hitting outfield prospect.' Harper added that Ramirez has a no-trade clause in his contract. However, he assumes, like any star player, that waving it for the chance to play for the Pinstripes and in a pennant race will be an easy decision. The New York Yankees' cost to trade for Jose Ramirez The Yankees have been looking for an upgrade at third all year. First, Oswaldo Cabrera was doing a solid job in the role, but a serious ankle injury likely ended his season. Then, DJ LeMahieu was unable to fill the spot and was so disappointing that he was released earlier this month. Ramirez would be a massive upgrade. While he didn't get All-Star honors again this season, he is having another big year and is on pace to hit over 30 homers and knock in 100 RBIs. Oddly enough, he has been a Yankees killer in the playoffs during his career. Not having to worry about seeing him in the postseason again would also be nice. Jose Ramirez contract: Seven years, $141 million Harper built his trade proposal on the Yanks giving up stud prospect Spencer Jones. However, various reports over the last year suggest mixed opinions about him around the league. To give up the six-time All-Star, there is a good chance the Guardians will want top prospect George Lombard. He is also 34th overall in the league on If New York is unwilling to part with him, then Jones would be just one of the big prospects in an offer. The package likely would also include pitcher Bryce Cunningham (No. 4 in the system), big league shortstop Anthony Volpe (depending on how Cleveland values him), and one more top 50 prospect.
